The first cyclonic system of the 2026-2027 season was named Agueda yesterday off the coast of Madagascar. According to the special cyclone bulletin issued on October 20 at 5 p.m. by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the cloud cluster evolving off the coast of Antsiranana intensified to reach the stage of a moderate tropical storm around noon.
Yesterday at 4 p.m., its center was located approximately 946 km north-northeast of Antsiranana. According to Météo Madagascar, average winds were estimated at 75 km/h, with gusts reaching 105 km/h near the center. The storm was moving west-southwest at a speed of 11 km/h.
Agueda is not expected to have any direct influence on weather conditions in Madagascar.
“Over the next three days, Agueda is expected to continue its overall westward trajectory while remaining far off the coast of Antsiranana,” the bulletin states.
However, weather conditions along the northern coastline remain under surveillance. The General Directorate of Meteorology invites maritime users in this area to stay informed of its development. No cyclone alert is planned at this stage in connection with this system.
