Rolf returned to the stage as a solo artist with his concert “Omaly, Anio, Rahatrizay,” held this Saturday at Ivokolo in Analakely. After several years of absence, the singer reconnected with his audience through a show that marks the beginning of a celebration scheduled to continue until 2027.
Without guests or giant screens, the artist focused on live music and intimacy with the audience. Accompanied by four musicians—Julie Ratefy on keyboards, Ulys Ratomosoa on electric guitar, Hery Fanantenana on drums, and Tendry on second bass and acoustic guitar—he revisited the iconic tracks of his repertoire.
Songs such as “Efa lasanao ny foko,” “Lanitra,” “Sambatra,” “Hiala,” “Tsy olon-dratsy,” “Bandy keliko,” “Ombalahy,” and “Fitiavanao” were among those performed. Newer compositions, including “Ny tantarako,” “Orange,” and “Siloke,” completed the program, alongside covers of Michael Jackson and Bob Marley.
The show brought together multiple generations, from children to the elderly, united by the artist’s songs. The paintings of visual artist Yasmine Fidimalala adorned the stage, creating a dialogue between visual arts and music around themes such as love, hope, trials, and family. Rolf favored an authentic approach, where songs tell life stories and awaken memories. Some spectators even confessed to shedding tears, testifying to the emotion stirred by his performances.
After a period of withdrawal that began in 2006, the singer is gradually resuming his musical activities. A self-taught artist, he has built his own universe by blending funk, rock, jazz, and Malagasy rhythms. With Zara Studios, he is preparing the next steps in the celebration of his 35-year musical career.
