RUGBY SEVENS – U18 – The U18 Ladies aim for the 2032 Olympic Games

The Makis Ladies U18 are currently continuing their training in Tunis. They are participating in a preparation camp ahead of the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.

The Makis Ladies U18 arrived in Tunisia to take part in a training camp and a women’s rugby sevens competition, organized under the Olympic Solidarity program. Until October 19, the Malagasy selection is sharing this experience with the national teams of Tunisia, Kenya, and Senegal, in an environment conducive to progress and marked by high-level confrontations.

This international preparation is an important step for the young players, who are called upon to represent Madagascar at the Youth Olympic Games, scheduled in Dakar, Senegal, from October 31 to November 13, 2026.

A few weeks before this deadline, the Tunisian gathering offers the players the opportunity to gain rhythm, refine their teamwork, and face opponents from different backgrounds.

The stakes are twofold: “to improve the immediate performance of the selection and to prepare for the future of Malagasy women’s rugby,” explains Antsoniandro Randrianorosoa, National Technical Director of Malagasy Rugby. Facing teams with varied profiles, the young players will be able to assess their level, correct their shortcomings, and strengthen their ability to meet the demands of international rugby.

For the National Technical Director, the approach goes beyond mere participation in upcoming competitions. The stated goal is ambitious: “To have a team capable of fighting for the 2032 Olympic Games.”

This vision reflects the desire to gradually build a competitive generation by focusing on training, gaining experience, and supporting young talent.

The stay in Tunisia thus represents an opportunity to strengthen the technical, tactical, and mental foundations of the players called upon to wear the national colors in the years to come.

The Olympic Solidarity camp also emphasizes cultural exchanges, athlete protection, education, and African solidarity. These are all essential dimensions for fostering the development of young athletes and strengthening ties between participating nations.

For the Makis Ladies U18, this Tunisian stage is much more than just a preparation camp. It represents an investment in the future, with Dakar in their sights and the 2032 Olympic Games on the horizon. The challenge now is to transform this international experience into concrete assets to contribute to the sustainable development of Malagasy women’s rugby.
