The capital of the Sofia region is undergoing a transformation. The influx of people is visible everywhere. Streets are particularly lively, bars and eateries are seeing increased traffic, and movement intensifies as the big day approaches. The arrival of official delegations, guests, and visitors from various regions has led to a significant surge in population.
Hotels are fully booked, forcing some visitors to stay with relatives or acquaintances. This massive presence gives Antsohihy an unusual energy, testing the city’s capacity.
This mobilization is due to the significance of the date. On October 14, 1958, the Malagasy Republic was proclaimed, marking a major step in the construction of the modern Malagasy state. The choice of the Sofia region is not accidental, as it is deeply linked to Philibert Tsiranana, the first President of the Malagasy Republic, who was born in Anahidrano, in the Antsohihy district.
The program, developed by the national preparatory committee, includes three days of activities, including official ceremonies, infrastructure inaugurations, cultural heritage promotion, a military-civil parade, and social actions. The visit of the President of the Refoundation of the Republic, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, will be a highlight of the event.
The first day will focus on infrastructure and heritage, starting in Anjamangirana with the inauguration of several facilities. In Antsohihy, a cultural village and exhibition stands will be opened, followed by the inauguration of the Sofia Museum. A symbolic moment will take place at 5:00 PM with the unveiling of the statue of Philibert Tsiranana at the Antsohihy roundabout, followed by a march and the installation ceremony of the head of the Sofia region.
