Driven by digital transformation, insurance services are evolving in Madagascar. The Mutuelle d’Assurance Malagasy (Mama) presented a new stage of its digitalization to the press yesterday, featuring the deployment of a technological tool dubbed “InsurTech by Mama.” The project is currently being piloted at the AIS agency in Isotry and is designed to allow policyholders to perform more operations remotely, including subscription, declaration, and tracking of claims.
This development comes at a time when access to financial and insurance services remains a challenge for households and businesses. The ability to perform certain procedures via a phone can significantly reduce travel and the time spent on formalities. It is particularly beneficial for those who work during agency opening hours or reside far from service points.
According to Mama’s management, the new platform now enables real-time contract management. A mobile application will also allow policyholders to access various services from their smartphones. Claims can be filed online, and their progress can be tracked remotely. Premium payments can also be made digitally.
Beyond saving time, digitization facilitates the management and storage of contract-related information. It also helps limit travel and simplifies procedures. However, its effectiveness remains tied to users’ access to a compatible phone, an internet connection, and the necessary skills to use these tools.
Reducing processing times is also a key issue. In the event of a claim, the policyholder may need quick information on the status of their file. Digital tracking can thus improve the flow of information between the insurer and the client, reducing the uncertainty associated with waiting.
