Rugby Union: Madagascar Cup – TFMA Challenges FT Manjakaray

Antananarivo rugby is set for another high-stakes clash between two well-acquainted teams. This Sunday, the Stade Makis Andohatapenaka will host the quarter-finals of the Madagascar Cup, featuring four matches, including the showdown between FT Manjakaray (FTM) and TFMA Ankasina. It is a knockout match where any mistake could lead to elimination.

On paper, FTM approaches this meeting with the experience of big games. As the Madagascar champion in 2023, 2024, and 2025, the Manjakaray club has established itself as a benchmark in national rugby. Their performance in the Madagascar championship confirms this consistency, having reached the final before narrowly losing to Cosfa, 39-40.

TFMA, meanwhile, arrives with the ambition to upset the hierarchy. The Ankasina players have already demonstrated their ability to compete with the top teams. In 2025, they reached the Top 12 semi-finals before falling to FTM 28-20. Recent history heavily favors FTM, who have won all three of their last encounters.

FTM coach Antonio Rabeherison stated, “We are aiming for victory to redeem ourselves after our defeat in the championship final.” Conversely, TFMA coach Fidelis Rakotoniaina, known as Coach Louda, noted, “It is a match that must be handled carefully. Reaching the final four is possible if everyone follows the instructions to the letter.”

The match is scheduled for 11:00 AM this Sunday at the Stade Makis Andohatapenaka.
