The Fitovinagny region, located in southeastern Madagascar and bordered by the Indian Ocean, is preparing to showcase its cultural identity. Following the division of the former Vatovavy-Fitovinany region in June 2021, the territory will host the Misebosebo 2026 festival in Manakara from December 19 to 23. The event will bring together various initiatives centered on culture, art, economy, tourism, and environmental protection.
Held under the theme “Mirehareha,” this edition aims to promote the cultural wealth of the Antemoro and Antanala people, making them better known to both Malagasy residents and foreign visitors. The festival is built on a central message: “Affirm our identity, mobilize our youth, and make Fitovinagny shine,” translated into the local language as “Latandragno gny hasy, tanora mihetsiky, Fitovinagny mamiratry.” This focus gives a special place to young people, who are invited to participate actively in the cultural life and development of their region.
Over five days, the public will discover different facets of local heritage through traditions, arts, craftsmanship, and the lifestyles of the population. The program also includes sports, artistic, and social activities, as well as an educational carnival designed to transmit knowledge in a participatory manner.
Beyond cultural celebration, Misebosebo aims to create opportunities for economic actors in Fitovinagny. An economic fair will allow entrepreneurs, producers, and artisans to showcase their products and expertise, while fostering exchanges and collaborations. The festival also intends to contribute to the promotion of the regional economy and tourism by highlighting its resources and unique features. Environmental protection is also a priority, with activities such as tree planting and awareness campaigns for the preservation of natural resources.
Through this program, the organizers hope to make Misebosebo a space open to both residents and visitors, where culture becomes a means to enhance the territory and strengthen cohesion. The Ministry of Communication and Culture supports this edition, with the Director General of Culture, Théo Rakotovao, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to cultural initiatives that promote Malagasy identity.
