WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – BC Somava to challenge GNBC in N1A Championship

BC Somava has written a new chapter in its history by reaching the final four of the Madagascar N1A championship for the first time. Facing Ankaratra Vakinankaratra in the quarterfinals, the northern basketball players secured a dominant 66-40 victory yesterday at the Palais des Sports in Mahamasina. This qualification sets up a clash against the defending champion, GNBC, today.

From the tip-off, the northern players made their intentions clear. Voary and Axanie hit from behind the arc, giving their team an 8-0 lead after three minutes. Although Kinley opened the scoring for Ankaratra, Somava maintained control of the game.

Despite some resistance from the Vakinankaratra players, Somava held a comfortable lead, ending the first quarter at 21-13. By halftime, BC Somava led by sixteen points, 32-16.

After the break, Ankaratra attempted a comeback with a 5-0 run, narrowing the score to 21-32. BC Somava responded immediately, accelerating their pace to lead 41-23 after three and a half minutes, eventually extending the gap to 22 points.

Entering the final quarter, the score was 53-35. The game became more physical, but BC Somava never allowed their opponent a chance to recover, finishing with a 66-40 victory.

“Reaching the final four was our primary goal for the club. Everything else is a bonus since it’s our first time at this stage,” said Bayard Razafindralambo, coach of BC Somava. However, he acknowledges the difficulty ahead: “The semifinal will not be a walk in the park as we face the defending champions, GNBC.”

In other quarterfinal matches, defending champion GNBC crushed JCBA 105-48. MB2ALL defeated Dunamis 72-63, and JEA Vakinakaratra beat ASSM Analamanga 38-26.
