After several years of absence from this stage, Njakatiana is preparing his return to the Coliseum in Antsonjombe. This Sunday, the artist will give a major concert titled “Antsika Mianakavy Jiaby.” Scheduled for the daytime, from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM, the show aims to bring all generations together around Malagasy music.
The choice of the Coliseum is a direct response to requests from his audience. “Many people asked me when I would perform an outdoor show again during the day,” explains Njakatiana. The artist also wants to take advantage of the venue’s scale to offer a larger production. “The Coliseum is the biggest. There will be many of us on stage,” he emphasizes.
With no specific theme beyond “Antsika Mianakavy Jiaby,” the event is designed to welcome children, parents, and young people alike. The stage setup will include a choir, musicians, two dance troupes, and the dancers who usually accompany Njakatiana. Adapted sound systems and various technical equipment are also planned to fully utilize the Coliseum’s space.
The artist announced an average of ten songs, drawn from different periods of his career. “The repertoire will be very varied: there will be old songs, those from the middle of my career, and current songs,” he specifies. Surprises are also promised, including the presence of certain artists who might perform before the show begins.
Collaborations with local artists are also being considered. Some may perform his songs, while Njakatiana might cover selected tracks from their repertoire. It is a way for him to continue connecting with the Malagasy public beyond the capital.
The singer also plans several costume changes and other surprises during the show. The public is expected from 10:00 AM, and security will be a particular focus, especially for families and spectators coming from afar.
This return to the Coliseum is part of a career that began in 1992, when he performed professionally at the Roxy hall. He notably mentions May 2, 1993, as an important moment in his early days. Between 1996 and the 2000s, several major shows marked his journey, notably at the Palais des Sports and in Antsonjombe, as well as two-part performances at a nautical club, some of which gathered up to 50,000 people.
The Coliseum also holds a special place in this history. After several performances since the 1990s, Njakatiana celebrated his 25th career anniversary there in 2017. Since then, his shows have continued to draw crowds, notably at the Palais des Sports, where his 30th-anniversary concert in 2022 was sold out, as was the February 14th concert held at the same venue.
