Electricity outages are increasing in Toamasina. Five thermal power units are currently out of service, reducing the capacity available to power the city. On social media, many residents are raising alarms about the frequency of the cuts, with some reporting up to five power interruptions per day. This unavailability directly affects the electricity production required for Toamasina’s needs, indicating the problem is not solely with Jirama.
To accelerate the restoration of service, a requisition has been issued. Repairs must be carried out as quickly as possible to restore sufficient production capacity.
A delegation from the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons and Jirama is expected in Toamasina today (October 2). They are tasked with examining emergency solutions to increase Jirama’s production during the repair period. This situation persists as users continue to suffer from repeated power supply interruptions, with testimonies on social media reflecting the daily difficulties faced by residents.
Restoring service is therefore a critical issue to quickly bolster the available production in Toamasina. In the meantime, the city remains faced with a production capacity that falls short of its needs.
