LITERATURE – Alexandre Lenot presents his award-winning novel

Winner of the 2026 Prix des Cinq Continents de la Francophonie, Alexandre Lenot presented his novel “Cette vieille chanson qui brûle” to the public, before donating a copy to the National Library of Madagascar.

Francophone literature was in the spotlight yesterday at the Dox Hall of the National Library of Madagascar. As the winner of the 2026 Prix des Cinq Continents de la Francophonie, French writer Alexandre Lenot presented his second novel, “Cette vieille chanson qui brûle,” as part of his literary tour. Organized by the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), the event brought together members of the Ministry of Communication and Culture, as well as literature enthusiasts.

In a symbolic gesture, a copy of the book was donated to the National Library, allowing the public access to this work recently honored by the Prix des Cinq Continents.

During the meeting, Alexandre Lenot discussed the origins of his work and his unique relationship with writing. The novel is rooted in personal questions and an exploration of intimacy. “It is a very special process to move from intimacy, alone with one’s obsessions, without knowing where it will lead,” he explained.

Published by Denoël, the novel follows the character Noé as he confronts the death of his brother and resurfacing family memories. Themes of grief, memory, and family bonds permeate the narrative.

The Antananarivo meeting is one stop on a twelve-country tour marking the 25th anniversary of the Prix des Cinq Continents. In addition to his literary work, Lenot also works in audiovisual media, having recently led a masterclass on documentary writing at the Institut Français de Madagascar as part of the Ant’Sary Doc Mada festival.
