Fasan’ny Karàna: Traders seek new bearings

A few weeks after the relocation of the Fasan’ny Karàna bus station to Amoronakona, former occupants are still struggling to adapt to their new environment. The move has led to significant changes in commercial activities and workplaces. Some have followed the station, while others have chosen to change their line of business. A former vendor of “composé” (a local dish) is among those who have shifted activities. He is currently looking for a location in Ampasampito, near the station, to continue his new business. “We are currently looking for a spot around Ampasampito, near the station,” he explains. His new venture is still in the setup phase.

In Amoronakona, other traders have chosen to follow the station and continue their activities at the new site. They are trying to retain their customer base and source of income despite the change in environment.

As for Henriette, she continues to sell near the old Fasan’ny Karàna site. However, the decline in foot traffic is palpable. “The market is not doing as well right now. There are still customers, but our sales have dropped by about 30%. The drivers and transporters who used to eat here were among our main customers,” she testifies.

The relocation of the station is thus causing a shift in commercial habits in the sector. For the former occupants, it is now a matter of finding a new balance between their workplace, their business, and their clientele.
