Nearly 3,000 people participated in a cleanup operation on Saturday, September 26, in Manarintsoa Atsinanana and Andavamba Anjezika. The canals were specifically targeted ahead of the rainy season. The objective was to clear drainage structures of waste that could obstruct water flow. The operation comes as rains are expected in the coming weeks. On the ground, participants cleaned several points across the two fokontany.
For Olga Ramiarinjanahary, national coordinator of Fanjiry, maintaining cleanliness after the cleanup remains essential. She called on the leaders of the fokontany to implement “dina” (local social conventions) to regulate cleanliness-related behaviors and limit waste dumping. The mobilization was accompanied by several distributions to the participants. The 3,000 volunteers each received 20,000 ariary. Fifteen tons of rice as well as school supplies were also distributed. Furthermore, trash bins were provided to the fokontany.
The operation was organized by the Fanjiry association, led by Elisa Randrianirina, with the participation of its coordination team in Antananarivo.
