Four people have lost their lives over the past two days in a series of traffic accidents. On Friday afternoon, September 26, the former mayor of Morafeno, Arivonimamo, died instantly at Ambohidranomanga, Ambatomirahavavy, on the RN1, following a collision between his motorcycle and a scooter. The scooter driver, who was seriously injured, was evacuated to the CHU-JRA hospital. On the same day, in Mandikamanana, on the RN7 in the Antanifotsy district, a 20-year-old man riding a scooter died instantly after a head-on collision with a semi-trailer truck. The truck driver has been placed in pre-trial detention as part of the investigation.

On the morning of Saturday, September 27, the body of a seriously injured man was discovered by motorists near the Ankadievo bridge on the By-pass in Alasora. He was reportedly struck by a vehicle that fled into the darkness. The driver responsible is still being sought. Finally, in Mandrosoa, in the Andramasina district, the body of a 40-year-old father was found in a ravine. He had been reported missing since last Wednesday while traveling to Ambohimamory by motorcycle to sell goods.

According to sources from the gendarmerie and police, speeding, poor lighting, and fatigue are among the main causes of this series of fatal accidents. Law enforcement officials state that investigations are ongoing, particularly regarding the vehicle that fled the scene on the By-pass, and are calling on all road users to exercise caution, especially at night.
