BOOK – ‘3,000 Women’ breaks the silence

Two and a half years of writing to give voice to those often silenced. With her book ‘3,000 Women. Clandestine Abortion in Madagascar,’ Mbolatiana Raveloarimisa sheds light on a reality that remains difficult to address in Malagasy society.

To construct this work, the author collected testimonies from several people affected by the issue, including women and healthcare professionals. These accounts highlight the realities of pregnancy terminations performed under unsafe conditions, as well as the consequences that some women may face.

Beyond the testimonies, the book seeks to open a discussion on a subject that remains largely taboo. In Madagascar, abortion remains prohibited by law, in a context where the situations experienced by women raise significant health and societal questions.

For Mbolatiana Raveloarimisa, it is also about sparking a conversation. ‘3,000 Women’ raises the question of the space given to these narratives in the public sphere and the necessity of being able to speak about these realities without hiding them. The book was presented this Friday, September 25, at the Radisson Blu in Ambodivona. This meeting marks the culmination of two and a half years of work, while opening a debate destined to continue regarding clandestine abortion in Madagascar.
