TOLIARA – Gen Z marks September 25th

Members of the GenZ Toliara movement and local authorities gathered yesterday to commemorate the socio-political movement of September 25, 2024. A year ago, young people in Toliara joined the mobilization initiated in Antananarivo, organizing marches from the Maninday campus to the city center. The square in front of the ‘Jardin de la Mer’ plaza, subsequently renamed ‘Democracy Square,’ became a hub for demanding better governance.

Yesterday, the same route was followed, with a march starting from the Maninday campus and ending at Democracy Square on Monja Jaona Avenue. Participants included GenZ Toliara members who have since taken on local government roles—such as the Regional Director of Population and Solidarity, Bréchard Amerindroy, and the Regional Director of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Ricot Tovonaikely—alongside students and influencers. They inaugurated a commemorative stele and delivered speeches.

The stele features a rounded top with an engraving of a young person with a raised fist, a historical symbol of protest and social struggle. The President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Toliara, Tondraha Razaha, and the second vice-PDS, Serge Vital, were among the officials present. Speakers emphasized the movement’s significance in contributing to the nation’s refoundation process.
