“The ministry no longer has access to its Facebook page.” The Minister of Labor, Employment and Civil Service, Denis Franconio Mac, suggests that malicious individuals hacked into his ministry’s Facebook page to post a “fake decree” on social media, and also to deny that September 25 would be a public holiday. Confirming the decree published this Thursday afternoon by the Prime Minister’s Office, the minister indicated on the public television channel that September 25 will be a paid public holiday, as stated in the “decree adopted by the Council of Government.”
According to Denis Franconio Mac, “malicious people are trying, by various means, to sow disorder and confusion.” According to him, these individuals are responsible for circulating the “completely fake decree currently spreading on social networks.” The header and signature of this decree, which was marked with a “Fake” stamp this Thursday, suggested that the decision was made by the President of the Republic. However, as the minister pointed out, the decision was made by the Council of Government. The document published by the Prime Minister’s Office confirms that the decree was adopted by the Council of Government and is signed by the Prime Minister, not the Head of State.
On Tuesday, the Facebook page of the Ministry of Labor published a statement indicating that September 25 would be a paid public holiday, and the decision was confirmed by the ministry. The decree accompanying the statement was signed by the President. On Wednesday, in New York, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina announced to the Malagasy diaspora in the United States that no Council of Ministers had made such a decision. By midday Thursday, the ministry’s Facebook page indicated that the statement and decree published two days earlier were fake and that September 25 would be a working day. Senior officials within the ministries even confirmed this new information, until the Prime Minister’s Office published the decree signed by the Prime Minister.
