EDUCATION – Axian Foundation inaugurates its 250th school

In Ambahikily, located in the Morombe district of the Atsimo-Andrefana region, the Public Primary School (EPP) has been given a new lease on life. The school’s dilapidated infrastructure, including an old building dating back to 1925 that was on the verge of collapse, has been rehabilitated. New classrooms have also been constructed. The facility now features three new primary classrooms, three preschool rooms, as well as toilets, a hand-washing station, playgrounds, and three rehabilitated existing buildings. These improvements were made possible through the support of the Axian Foundation and its partner, United World School (UWS).

This marks the 250th school built in Madagascar by the Axian Foundation. This symbolic milestone commemorates 15 years of commitment to education in a region where schooling remains a challenge. This year, nearly 1,150 students will be able to study in better conditions. The school currently hosts over 1,000 students, supported by 27 teachers.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several authorities, including the regional head, the prefect of Atsimo-Andrefana, representatives from the Regional Directorate of National Education, as well as the Executive Director of the Axian Foundation and the Global CEO of UWS. Their presence underscores that such projects can only succeed through public-private collaboration.

UWS is a long-standing partner of the Foundation in the Atsimo-Andrefana region, having built around thirty schools together. On the sidelines of the inauguration, two new initiatives were launched: UWS opened a training center for regional teachers equipped with computers provided by Yas Madagascar, and the Axian Foundation and its partners laid the foundation stone for a multisport field at EPP Ambahikily as part of the M’Hetsika MVola program.
