TRAFFIC – A ‘familiarization operation’ for road users on the use of traffic lights launched in Analakely

The Urban Commune of Antananarivo has launched a learning and re-appropriation phase for traffic rules involving traffic lights. The lights installed in front of the Pharmacie de l’Océan Indien in Analakely were put into service on Friday and are the subject of an awareness campaign for road users. Municipal and national police officers are present on-site to explain how they work and assist with their use.

During the first 24 hours of operation, difficulties in following the instructions were observed. After an interruption over the weekend, the lights were put back into service on Monday. This Tuesday morning, the instructions seem to be generally respected by the users observed on-site.

This awareness period is intended to allow motorists, two-wheeler users, and pedestrians to familiarize themselves with the new signals and re-learn traffic rules when regulated by lights.

The red light requires vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles to stop, while pedestrians may cross. The yellow or orange light signals an imminent change and invites drivers to slow down. The green light authorizes traffic when the path is clear and passage can be made safely.

The presence of agents on-site aims to sensitize the various users and facilitate this learning phase. The goal is to gradually achieve better organization of traffic between vehicles, two-wheelers, and pedestrians.

The objective is to better organize traffic for all users. These facilities should contribute to fluidifying traffic, particularly in areas heavily frequented by pedestrians and vehicles.
