The Barea are set to meet in Uyo on Tuesday for their first training session ahead of the opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. According to Alfred Randriamanampisoa, president of the Malagasy Football Federation (FMF), the majority of the players called up for the September international window are expected in Lagos this Monday, where the team will regroup before traveling to Uyo, the host city for their first match on Friday.
The Malagasy delegation is scheduled to travel from Lagos to Uyo on a flight chartered by the Nigeria Football Federation. “As per the regulations, if the stadium is located more than 200 km from the arrival airport, the host country is responsible for organizing the transport of the visiting delegation to the match city,” explained the FMF president. “The players will arrive at the match venue on Monday,” he added.
This regrouping will allow Barea head coach Corentin Martins to have the majority of his squad available by Tuesday morning. The match between Madagascar and Nigeria is scheduled for Friday, September 25, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, southeastern Nigeria.
