NATIONAL EDUCATION – A new regional director takes office

Voahangy Rivesty Aimée Razafiarimanana has officially taken the helm of the Regional Directorate of National Education (DREN) for the Atsimo Andrefana region. Appointed during the latest Council of Ministers, she assumed her duties yesterday following a handover ceremony with the interim official who had held the position for a year.

The ceremony was attended by parliamentarians, including the deputies of Betioky South and Sakaraha, as well as the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education, Ricardo Rasolofoniaina. The latter took the opportunity to reiterate that teachers must fulfill their duties. “Any teacher who does not show up for work but simply wanders around the DREN office will be dismissed,” he declared.

However, this appointment has sparked protests. The day before yesterday, some teachers gathered in front of the National Education administrative building in Tsienengea to denounce what they consider an unfounded appointment. According to them, the new regional director did not respect the memorandum of understanding concluded in 2025 with the Ministry of National Education. They specifically criticize her for not participating in the protests led that year. In any case, the new regional director, an inspector of secondary education, promised in her short speech to improve the quality of education in the Atsimo Andrefana region.

“I will work to resolve the electricity and internet connection problems at the Atsimo Andrefana Regional Directorate of National Education. I also call on teachers to consider the best interests of the students,” she emphasized.
