According to gendarmerie reports, cases of missing persons have been on the rise recently. The search operation, which had caused great concern among the residents of Androndra Ampanantanana, has ended in tragedy. Tiavina and Tahiry, two men who were cousins, were found dead, their bodies floating in the Ikopa River.
They were last seen alive on the night of Friday, September 11, after spending time with their family. It is alleged that two young women, one residing in the neighborhood and the other in Tanjombato, took them away. By 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, the family realized the two men had not returned home. They began searching and launched a call for witnesses on social media. Njara Tahiana Rakotoarivelo, Tiavina’s older brother, recounted: ‘There was a commotion on Saturday afternoon at the home of one of the women, and two unknown men took Tiavina and Tahiry away by grabbing them by their collars.’
On Tuesday, September 15, around 5:30 p.m., firefighters received a call reporting a body floating near the Saropody bridge in Tanjombato. After divers recovered it, it was identified as Tiavina. The family was notified by phone that the body had been found in the water.
The search continued yesterday morning, and Tahiry’s body was also recovered in the Sanifer area, still within the Ikopa River, by firefighter divers. The two young women involved have already been questioned by the Criminal Police in Anosy, though they denied the accusations during questioning by the family. The investigation is ongoing to determine what actually happened. Meanwhile, the relatives are awaiting the results of the autopsies before setting a date for the funeral.
