From the lack of school canteens to school supplies, and the insufficiency of classrooms, several public institutions are facing material difficulties. On the ground, these constraints directly affect the daily lives of students and their learning conditions.
Access to the canteen remains a particular concern. Some students arrive in class without having eaten enough. “Some students do not eat, they become weak and lose their motivation,” testifies Brigitte, a head of a public institution interviewed. A situation that can make it more difficult for them to concentrate during lessons.
School supplies also constitute a significant need. In some institutions, a portion of students does not have the necessary equipment to follow courses under good conditions. “Here, students do not have the necessary supplies. Thanks to social actions, they can have the same chances as their classmates who have school supplies,” says an institution manager.
Added to this is the lack of classrooms. Faced with limited infrastructure capacity, some institutions are forced to reorganize their students. “We are numerous here, we have to reorganize ourselves,” explains Veromalala, a teacher in a public institution.
These difficulties show that the needs of public institutions are not limited to infrastructure. Food and school supplies also remain essential to allow students to continue their schooling in better conditions.
Faced with these needs, some associations are carrying out social actions for institutions and families. These initiatives provide concrete support to students, particularly through the distribution of school supplies, support for the canteen, or even access to certain care.
