On September 10, 2026, around 11:00 PM, at a location known as Sampanana Ankerika, in the fokontany of Antanimora, Anahidrano rural commune, Antsohihy district, a search of a public transport vehicle traveling from Antsiranana to Mahajanga led to the discovery of a suspicious package containing ammunition. Upon inspection, it was found to contain 500 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition without any supporting documentation. The ammunition was immediately seized, and the driver was taken in for questioning. His driver’s license and the vehicle’s documents were also impounded.
Through collaboration with territorial units in Mahajanga, the recipient of the package was arrested at Marovato Abattoir, Mahajanga, on September 11, 2026, around 7:00 PM. The individual, a 54-year-old man, is currently being held in police custody at the Mahajanga territorial unit office.
On September 12, 2026, around 5:00 PM, a 40-year-old man identified as the sender of the ammunition was arrested at his home located in the Tanambao IV fokontany, Antsiranana urban commune, thanks to cooperation with the Regional Criminal Research Service of Antsiranana.
