A new transport service is being launched to support the relocation of bush taxis (taxis-brousse) from Fasan’ny Karàna to the new Amoronakona bus station. The Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) announced that ten shuttle lines will be established to facilitate travel for passengers coming from Antananarivo or other regions. A source close to the matter indicated that the shuttles will be operated by the transport cooperatives themselves.
These lines will serve several neighborhoods and major axes of the capital, including Soarano, Anosy, Ivato, Ambohidratrimo, Sabotsy Namehana, Ambohipo, Itaosy, Ampitatafika, Andoharanofotsy, and the High City (Haute Ville). Depending on the route, they will pass through Ankorondrano and Marais Masay, or Ankadimbahoaka and the By-Pass, before reaching Amoronakona. The shuttles will operate daily, from Monday to Sunday, between 5:00 AM and 8:00 PM, totaling 15 hours of daily service. Fares have not yet been set; discussions are ongoing, and ticket prices will be announced later.
This initiative is led by the Malagasy government through the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology (MTM), in collaboration with the Land Transport Agency (ATT) and the CUA. It aims to ensure connectivity between the capital, peripheral areas, and the new bus station as part of the reorganization of interregional transport, particularly for lines serving National Roads 7 and 2.
Transporters and cooperatives currently based at Fasan’ny Karàna have until Wednesday, September 16, to complete their relocation to Amoronakona. The shuttles are expected to be operational by this deadline.
In parallel, the frequency of the urban train connecting Soarano to Ambohimanambola, which passes through Amoronakona, has been increased to three round trips per day. Further modifications to certain taxi-be (minibus) routes are also planned to further facilitate access to the new bus station.
