COMMERCE – SPM SA plans to purchase 1,500 tons of paddy in Alaotra

The State Procurement of Madagascar (SPM SA) is launching its paddy purchasing campaign in the Amparafaravola district starting this Monday, September 14. According to the Alaotra Mangoro region, the state-owned company plans to purchase up to 1,500 tons this week.

The operation will begin in the commune of Tanambe with 700 tons. The campaign will continue in Andilamena with the purchase of 500 tons on Tuesday, and 300 tons in the commune of Ampitatsimo, Ambatondrazaka, on Wednesday.

A meeting was held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, between the Director General of SPM, Guillot Ramilison, and local authorities, including deputies, the head of the Ambatondrazaka district, the regional director of Trade and Consumption, and representatives of the mayors, to coordinate the purchasing procedures. The purchase price is set at 1,500 ariary per kilogram. Furthermore, “SPM and the mayors are working together to organize the purchasing locations,” as stated by the deputy elected in Ambatondrazaka, Fidèle Razara Pierre.

According to SPM, this paddy purchase will continue uninterrupted until the entire production of farmers and collectors has been sold. Strict controls will be exercised over operators who purchase rice for stockpiling to prevent any speculation.
