“There is a network impoverishing the country at this airport.” The President of the Refondation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, denounced the lack of measures taken to end gold trafficking through Ivato International Airport, “12 months after” the popular movement of September 2025. Having come to Ivato to present the results of an operation he claims was “led by the presidency,” he mentioned the seizure of “nearly 6 kilos of gold” that had already been “on board a plane and had to be taken off.” According to him, investigations have shown that the network responsible for the thwarted trafficking attempt this Sunday “smuggles gold out of the country twice a week.”
According to the Head of State, those responsible for the attempted export of the gold seized this Sunday are all known. “The videos are there,” he asserts. Among the suspects are “civil servants who do not deserve to be in an administrative office but in prison,” he regrets. He further adds that “these people are known to everyone.” Their modus operandi is also known to all, he assures. “Everyone knows who bypasses the scanner check, who has access to the customs-bonded area, and who takes the gold when boarding the plane,” he adds.
Denouncing the absence of concrete measures taken against this system, the President of the Refondation announced his intention to send personnel to conduct searches at the airport to put an end to the trafficking. “Everyone, whoever they are and whatever entity they work for at the airport, will be subject to searches,” he insists. He assures that he will also closely follow the fate of those suspected of involvement in the recently thwarted gold export attempt, as well as the fate of those recently arrested for the same offense.
