Roland Rakotondrainibe, known as Nono, received a distinction yesterday at the National Library, honoring several decades dedicated to Malagasy music and culture. The artist was elevated to the rank of Commander of the Order of Arts, Letters, and Culture of Madagascar, a recognition presented on behalf of the Ministry of Communication and Culture.
For Gascar Fenosoa, Minister of Communication and Culture, this distinction rewards an artist who “possesses a unique identity and has left significant works in the history of Malagasy music.”
Nono has distinguished himself particularly through his ability to use music as a medium to convey messages, emotions, and memories shared by several generations.
The Minister also highlighted how the artist transforms human realities and experiences into songs. “Through his musical and artistic journey, he has been able to convey the realities and stories of daily life,” he emphasized. This contribution, according to him, participates in the promotion of Malagasy art and culture. “It is a sign of recognition from the entire nation for the work you have accomplished,” he added during the award ceremony.
