Originally on the Madagascar Tennis Federation’s 2025 schedule but canceled due to security concerns related to last September’s unrest, the World Tennis Tour Juniors J30 is back in Madagascar with two legs scheduled at the Club Olympique de Tananarive. The first leg will run from September 29 to October 4, followed by the second leg from October 6 to 10.
For U18 players, this international competition is a chance to test their skills against foreign rivals, gain valuable ranking points, and continue their development without the heavy financial burden of traveling abroad.
In the Malagasy context, this is significant. Normally, to climb the rankings and gain international experience, young players must travel to various countries, incurring high costs for airfare, accommodation, and logistics, which can strain family budgets. Hosting these events at home provides a major advantage for local families.
Hary Manohisoa Andriantefihasina, President of the Madagascar Tennis Federation, highlighted the benefits: “It allows young Malagasy players from all leagues to participate in an international tournament at a lower cost. Usually, parents must pay between 8 and 10 million ariary for travel and lodging. Here, the tournaments are held at the COT, and it is the foreign players who come to Madagascar.”
