A new meeting took place between Emmanuel Macron and Colonel Randrianirina. The French President received the President of the Refoundation of Madagascar at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the International Space Summit organized in the French capital on September 9 and 10, took place between the French head of state’s meeting with Alexander Stubb, President of the Republic of Finland, and the French Council of Ministers. “The discussions between the two figures focused on strengthening relations between the two countries,” the Presidency of the Republic reported without further details.
This is the second meeting in the French capital between the two leaders since Colonel Michaël Randrianirina came to power in October 2025, following a popular protest movement that led to the overthrow of former President Andry Rajoelina. The first meeting took place in February 2026. At that time, the two leaders discussed a “series of guidelines that will set the course for the bilateral relationship between France and Madagascar until the twenty-four-month deadline set by the Malagasy authorities as the timeframe for the Refoundation process.”
A bilateral meeting with an African head of state also took place during the Malagasy leader’s stay in Paris. Colonel Michaël Randrianirina held talks with Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh on Thursday at the Grand Palais, where the International Space Summit was held. It was an opportunity for the two men to exchange views on their respective countries. The President of the Refoundation continued his trip to Brussels, where he met with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever and the Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, who is also the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
