More than a month after the public denunciation of unpaid salaries for Barea coach Romuald Rakotondrabe, the arrears have yet to be settled.
The situation remains unresolved. The saga surrounding the unpaid wages of the former Barea head coach, Romuald Félix Rakotondrabe, known as Rôrô, is far from over. The technician, who secured a silver medal at the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), a bronze in 2023, and a gold medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games the same year, spoke out about the issue in early August during a press conference at the Barea Mahamasina Stadium, shortly before his departure to join the Sudanese club Al Merrikh SC.
Coach Rôrô stated, “My salaries since November 2024 have not yet been paid… I have not even received my salary for the last CHAN in 2025.” The matter now rests with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Malagasy Football Federation (FMF). Minister Alain Désiré Rasambany noted on Wednesday that there is a misunderstanding regarding the coach’s verbal resignation following the AFCON qualifiers in November 2024, which was not submitted in writing.
The Ministry and the Federation are currently reviewing the tripartite contract, which was set for a 36-month duration from November 1, 2023, to October 31, 2026. The FMF, through Solonirina Ratovohery, maintains that the coach’s verbal resignation constituted a legal breach of contract. The question remains as to how and when the authorities will resolve this financial dispute.
