The partnership between the World Food Programme (WFP), the Ministry of National Education, and the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) was officially launched in Ambatomirahavavy.
Starting from the 2026-2027 school year, 11,000 students across 28 schools in the Itasy region will receive nutritious daily school meals, thanks to a partnership between the WFP and the LCIF. The official launch took place at the Ambohidranomanga Public Primary School in the commune of Ambatomirahavavy.
While the WFP handles logistical coordination and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty supports the local supply model, members of Lions Clubs District 417—which includes Madagascar—will provide close monitoring of the schools and implement complementary actions.
“Behind the numbers and the institutions we represent, there are, above all, children (…). To learn well, a child also needs to eat well,” stated District 417 Governor, Lion CMJp Stefan Andrianisa, praising the synergy between the financial strength of the LCIF and the field operations of the Lions, in the spirit of the 2026-2027 mandate motto: “Acting Together for a Common Legacy.”
This launch marks the beginning of a new three-year joint commitment between the WFP and LCIF, with a budget of $12 million ($2 million per year per organization), following a pilot project that fed over 653,000 children in four countries. Nationally, the local school feeding model already supports 243,000 children in 673 schools.
