New discussions have taken place between the President of the Refoundation and some of his predecessors. On Tuesday, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina received former presidents Hery Rajaonarimampianina and Marc Ravalomanana, as well as two former interim heads of state, Rivo Rakotovao and Norbert Lala Ratsirahonana, at the Iavoloha State Palace. This meeting is expected to conclude the series of political consultations scheduled from September 1st to 8th, initiated by the current head of state to prepare for future electoral deadlines.
This follows an initial meeting organized by Colonel Michaël Randrianirina with Hery Rajaonarimampianina and Marc Ravalomanana towards the end of July. At that time, the President of the Refoundation aimed to launch a political dialogue parallel to the national consultation to discuss and create the necessary conditions for organizing the elections scheduled for December 2027.
Following the initial exchanges regarding the preparation of the political dialogue, the Refoundation presidency launched the political consultations. Over six afternoons since September 1st, the President of the Refoundation and high-level advisors have received various political groups, civil society organizations, and national stakeholders, such as churches, religious associations, and defense and security forces. Representatives from the United Nations, the African Union, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) also attended some of the meetings.
Each meeting provided an opportunity for the hosts to gather different viewpoints and proposals regarding the framework for future elections. For the Refoundation presidency, this approach is intended to help create the conditions for a transparent and democratic electoral process that can gain public support. It runs parallel to consultation initiatives led by the CENI on electoral governance issues, and by the Council of Christian Churches in Madagascar (FFKM) on other matters related to state management.
