Teachers take center stage. On September 10 and 11, a pedagogical fair will be held at the Jardin de la Mer in Toliara, where teaching materials used by educators from the six school districts (CISCO) of the Atsimo Andrefana region will be showcased. The event is organized by the Regional Directorate of Education of Atsimo Andrefana and the Regional Center for Pedagogical Training (CRFP).
“The creative side of teachers who develop their own didactic materials will be highlighted. They will also demonstrate how they use these tools to impart knowledge to students,” explains Loria Biscottine, Director of the Belomboka Regional Center for Pedagogical Training in Toliara II. “The fundamental basis of education, which is teaching students to read and perform calculations, is facing challenges. Workshops will be organized during this fair, where the realities faced by teachers and the challenges in terms of teaching materials will be presented to technical and financial partners in the education sector,” she added. Nationally, 18% of children aged 7 to 14 cannot read, and 13% cannot perform basic calculations. “In the Atsimo Andrefana region, as of 2025, 8.8% of students can read and calculate correctly. This meeting with partners will pave the way for quality education,” the CRFP director detailed.
Public speaking contests in Malagasy, French, and English will be on the agenda. Teachers will also have the opportunity to showcase their poetic talent through a poetry competition.
