TRAFFIC – A street reopens in Ambohijatovo

The street passing near the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Ambohijatovo has been reopened to vehicular traffic.

“It has been a little less than a week since the barriers installed here were removed and this street was opened,” testified Julienne Razanamanana, a street vendor in the neighborhood, yesterday.

Motorists coming from Ambondrona now have two options to reach Ambohijatovo or Analakely. They can either go down directly at the first junction, between the Ministry of Youth and the RM1, or drive to the intersection at Ambohijatovo and then descend to Andohan’Analakely. This reorganization was intended to ease traffic congestion between Ambondrona and Ambohijatovo. However, users see little improvement: “Despite this measure, traffic jams persist,” one of them lamented. They see little utility in the reopening. “Vehicles cannot even reach Antaninarenina or Ambohijatovo directly and still have to make a detour to Andohan’Analakely,” they added.

Others believe it only exacerbates traffic disruption. Street vendors have invaded the sidewalks in Ambohijatovo, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road. Furthermore, vehicles exiting the Ministry of Youth gate drive against the flow of the one-way street. “We no longer know the traffic rules around here,” local residents regretfully noted.
