The Irmar political group states it is ready for dialogue but demands a climate of appeasement first. It calls for the implementation of recommendations from SADC, the African Union, and the United Nations.
“Appeasement must precede dialogue.” This is the emphasis of the “Isika rehetra miaraka amin’i Andry Rajoelina” (Irmar) political group in a statement following its participation in the political consultation initiated by Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, Head of State.
The former ruling political formation sent its representatives to Iavoloha on Wednesday to take part in consultations on electoral governance. However, in its missive, it looks ahead to a “political dialogue to exit the crisis.” A process that, according to the group, can only take place in an appeased climate. According to its statement, this requires the implementation of recommendations from international organizations.
Irmar recalls that following its extraordinary summit on the Madagascar dossier on June 29, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) “called for the release of political prisoners, the end of arbitrary arrests of opposition leaders and members of the Generation Z movement, as well as the return of political exiles to the country.”
The “Oranges” (Irmar members) maintain that these recommendations “constitute the essential foundation for a process of appeasement and political dialogue.” With this in mind, they demand, among other things, “the unconditional release of political detainees and the cessation of arbitrary arrests and politically motivated prosecutions, the end of political persecution targeting figures of the former regime and, more broadly, any political actor or citizen prosecuted for reasons related to their opinions or political commitments.”
Irmar also insists on the return of “political exiles” and requests “effective guarantees of public freedoms, fundamental rights, and the free exercise of political activities.” The Oranges argue that for them, the implementation of international recommendations “constitutes the first essential step toward restoring trust and building a consensus.”
The former ruling political formation nevertheless affirms its readiness for dialogue. It also expresses its commitment to a rapid return to constitutional order. However, the Oranges maintain: “But we are also firm that appeasement must precede dialogue. International commitments must be respected.”
