Bank cards are playing an increasingly important role in payment habits, but their use also requires greater vigilance. BMOI is focusing on financial education and best practices for using its Visa cards, particularly through the ‘Payez Libre’ initiative. This approach aims to guide users toward safer payments while contributing to the modernization of financial practices in Madagascar.
For Harimbola Rakotoarisoa, Director of Banking Production at BMOI, the modernization of the payment system cannot be separated from financial education. The bank believes that a better understanding of banking tools is an essential condition for allowing users to fully benefit from new payment solutions. The challenge is therefore as much technological as it is educational.
‘BMOI has long been convinced that the modernization of the payment system in Madagascar must go hand in hand with financial education,’ he explains.
This vision places the user at the center of the evolution of financial services, encouraging them to better understand the features of their card as well as the precautions to take.
Jessy Rakotoniaina, Cash Management Manager at BMOI, reminds us that a bank card is primarily a means of payment. It allows its holder to pay for purchases and perform various daily operations. It can also be used when traveling abroad. Regular and controlled use thus facilitates the tracking of expenses and financial operations.
However, this freedom also implies certain precautions. The four-digit PIN must remain strictly personal. It is used in particular for withdrawals at ATMs or for certain payments on terminals. The visual cryptogram, consisting of the three digits on the back of the card, is used for online payments on reliable and secure sites.
The sixteen-digit card number and its expiration date may also be required to make online purchases. However, BMOI recommends checking for ‘https’ and the padlock icon in the address bar before entering this information.
