Six representatives, one podium. The Malagasy duo formed by Jérémy Rakotoarimanana, riding a KTM 250, and Georges Steven Karnezis, on a Fanatic 250, secured third place in the MX2 category with 42 points. They finished behind the South African team, credited with 101 points, and the Zimbabwean pair, with 69 points, during the Motocross of African Nations.
The African summit took place from August 28 to 30 at the Gallina Motocross Park in Windhoek, Namibia. In the individual standings, Jérémy finished sixth after the three heats, while Steven ranked 12th.
In the 125cc category, the Malagasy team composed of Sincère Heritiana and Lucas Mandresy Szmurlo, both on KTM 250s, took fifth place in the final standings, behind South Africa, Namibia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
In the elite category, Mathias Plantive, on a Husqvarna 450cc, and Claudio Tida, on a Fanatic 450cc, had to withdraw during the first heat on Saturday following a crash involving the four-time national champion.
“I had a big crash over the front on the sixth lap. I had to eject from the bike to avoid a heavier impact (…) I was crawling and starting to get up to get to safety when Claudio hit me (…) Nothing too serious, no fractures,” explained Mathias, last year’s African vice-champion.
The race ended prematurely for both riders, as Claudio’s bike suffered a radiator problem following the collision.
