The successor to Arnaud Guillois has arrived at his new post. Jean-Marc Grosgurin, the new Ambassador of France to Madagascar, presented the figurative copies of his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday. According to a statement from the Malagasy Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to review the state of relations between Madagascar and France and to reaffirm their commitment to implementing a renewed partnership, in accordance with the roadmap agreed upon by the two heads of state in Paris in February 2026.
The discussions focused on the priorities of bilateral cooperation. While support for the ‘Refondation’ (Refoundation) program and addressing the urgent needs of the population remain at the heart of the partnership, the implementation of long-term structural projects was also discussed during the meeting, the ministry noted. This particularly concerns the infrastructure sector, which has a direct impact on the living conditions of the population.
With solid experience within the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the new ambassador has held several diplomatic positions throughout his career. He has notably held responsibilities in the Middle East as well as serving as Consul General of France in Dakar, Senegal. He represented France in Guinea from 2016 to 2020, and then in the Central African Republic from 2020 to 2023. Just before his appointment to Antananarivo, Jean-Marc Grosgurin served as an Inspector of Foreign Affairs and Head of Mission.
