A landslide occurred yesterday in Miandrarivo, Ambanidia. Around 2:00 PM, four workers were constructing a retaining wall at the foot of an embankment, which was topped by a flat surface used as a parking lot. The ground suddenly collapsed, burying one of them, aged approximately 23. His three companions managed to escape.
The young man remained trapped under the rubble for nearly an hour, with only his head visible, before being rescued. Exhausted but conscious, he was able to drink water during the rescue operation.
Firefighters, police from the Second Arrondissement station, and local residents joined forces to clear the tons of earth and stones that held him captive.
The young man was finally extracted alive, placed on a stretcher, and transported by ambulance to the HJRA (Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona Hospital) for medical treatment. The police secured the area, regulated traffic, and inspected the site to prevent further risks. “We thought he wouldn’t make it, but seeing him still breathing when we pulled him out gave us hope,” a witness confided.
