Access to drinking water is expanding in Antananarivo thanks to the Drinking Water Access and Supply Project (Paaep). The project plans to extend drinking water services to ten fokontany in Greater Antananarivo, with connections offered at an affordable rate of 30,000 ariary. This ‘Promotional Connections’ project is part of the celebration of Jirama’s fiftieth anniversary.
A field visit was conducted on August 22, 2026, in the fokontany of Tanjombato Iraitsimivaky and Ankorondrano by officials and technicians to launch the project. The objective of this initiative is to inform and raise awareness among the population so that interested households are aware of the required technical conditions and the various steps to follow.
In its first phase, the project aims to supply drinking water to ten thousand households spread across ten fokontany, notably Manarintsoa Atsinanana, Antetezanafovoany I, Faliarivo Ambanidia, Angarangarana, Anosibe Andrefana I, Ankerana Ankadindramamy, and Anosivavaka Ambohimanarina.
The Paaep, funded by the World Bank with 400 million USD and supported by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, aims to sustainably improve access to drinking water for more than one million people in Greater Antananarivo and several secondary cities in Madagascar. This first phase will last nine months.
