Electricity contracts that no longer align with current realities may be subject to review. The Director General of JIRAMA, General Hajatiana Rasolomanana, announced this on Thursday during a visit to Amoronankona. “Contracts that are no longer in line with current realities will be examined, in accordance with the established provisions,” he stated.
Procedures are currently underway with the supervising ministry to identify the relevant contracts. The Director General also called on private producers to honor their contractual commitments and take responsibility in the face of the current network challenges.
This situation occurs during the low-water season, which affects hydroelectric production. Consequently, reliance on thermal power plants has increased, particularly on the Antananarivo interconnected network.
To support water resources in dams, JIRAMA is collaborating with the General Directorate of Meteorology on cloud seeding operations. The goal is to boost hydroelectric production and gradually reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
However, power shedding is not expected to disappear completely this year. According to the Director General, its reduction will be gradual, as measures implemented by the State, JIRAMA, and private producers improve the production and supply of the national electricity grid.
