On Friday, August 21, a 36-year-old woman was arrested by police in the Aranta neighborhood of Mahajanga, following reports of child pornography acts committed against thirteen girls aged between 4 and 15.
According to investigators, she forced the children to perform sexual acts while filming them, before giving them small sums of money ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 ariary. One of the victims, an 11-year-old girl, was reportedly beaten for refusing to participate.
The videos were subsequently sold to foreigners, while the children were invited to her home to endure these abuses. Several of them reported suffering from physical pain, which alerted their parents. In total, sixteen people have already filed complaints against the suspect, who allegedly attempted to flee before being intercepted by law enforcement.
The woman has been placed in police custody along with her daughter, who is being prosecuted for complicity. The victims have received medical examinations and appropriate care. The parents are demanding an exemplary punishment for the person they hold responsible.
