The final results for the 2026 Baccalaureate are now available. While the success rate has increased in Antananarivo, several other provinces have recorded a decline compared to the previous session.
Antananarivo concluded the publication of Baccalaureate results this weekend. According to figures released by the University of Antananarivo on Saturday, slightly more than half of the candidates, or 51.74%, passed their exams in the Antananarivo province.
“Compared to 2025, we see a 4.25 percentage point increase in the success rate,” stated Professor Rivoarison Randrianasolo, President of the University of Antananarivo. In this province, the deliberation threshold was lowered to 9.75 out of 20 compared to last year.
The trend is different in other provinces. In Toliara, the success rate is the lowest among reported results at 39.21%, down from 43.15% in 2025. In Toamasina, it fell from 55.37% to 51.57%, while in Fianarantsoa, it dropped from 57.98% to 51%. Mahajanga recorded the most significant decline, with a rate of 47.92% compared to 59.77% in the previous session. In the Sava region, the success rate stands at 39.71% this year.
Beyond the raw numbers, many teachers observe growing difficulties among students regarding reasoning and analysis. A public high school principal and a mathematics teacher blame the time spent on social media, noting that students are often more absorbed by their phones than their studies. Some teachers also express concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence, noting that students often copy-paste answers rather than thinking for themselves.
Conversely, some students point to teaching conditions, with some alleging that certain teachers prioritize private tutoring over completing the full curriculum in class.
