A reminder for public transport vehicles: Accidents involving public transport can lead to sanctions against multiple stakeholders. The Land Transport Agency (ATT) has reiterated the measures in place when accidents result in injuries or fatalities. According to the ATT, with the increase in traffic during the holiday season, the risk of road accidents is also rising, necessitating a reminder to strengthen vigilance and caution among all concerned parties.
The ATT stated in a press release that traffic accidents, especially those involving public transport, must not be taken lightly, particularly when injuries or loss of life occur. Administrative measures are in place to hold the various stakeholders accountable and to enhance passenger safety.
For drivers, their driver’s license may be revoked in accordance with legal provisions and procedures. A temporary suspension of transport activities may also be imposed pending the decision of the license revocation commission. In the event of recidivism, sanctions can be more severe, potentially leading to permanent exclusion from the public transport sector.
Vehicle owners are also affected and may face sanctions. The authorization to operate a route may be withdrawn for a specified period, ranging from 15 to 30 days in cases of injury, and 30 to 90 days in cases of fatalities.
Transport cooperatives are also subject to these measures. The issuance of certain administrative documents required for the renewal of transport activities may be suspended. Furthermore, awareness and safety training sessions may be organized for cooperative managers and employees to reinforce accident prevention measures.
