What if the future new Malagasy city were founded in collaboration with the Egyptians? Reflections and exchanges are currently underway between Madagascar and Egypt regarding the creation of a new urban hub. The project is still in its early stages and the site has not yet been determined, but the Ministry of Territorial Planning and Land Services indicates that Egyptian developers are ready to invest in the project.
The topic was at the center of a meeting held on Monday in Anosy between the Minister of Territorial Planning and Land Services, General Lylyson René de Rolland, and the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Madagascar, Rabab Said Abdou Abdelhadin. The Egyptian diplomat reportedly expressed her country’s willingness to support Madagascar in realizing this initiative.
The project aims to contribute to decongesting urban areas, reducing traffic jams, and improving the living conditions of the affected populations. The idea follows the late July trip to Egypt by the President of the Refoundation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina. During this visit, the Head of State toured Egypt’s “New Administrative Capital” (NAC), developed by the Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD), located about forty kilometers from Cairo.
The Head of State appeared particularly impressed by the new Egyptian urban hub. He inquired about how the project was designed and managed, as well as the work carried out by Egyptian engineers and companies. The Malagasy delegation was able to learn about the development model of this new city, which hosts administrative infrastructure and major facilities.
At this stage, no precise location has been announced for the future Malagasy city. Among the possibilities mentioned is the potential transfer of certain state administrative offices, which could help decongest some urban areas. The ministry states it is willing to support investors and operators with projects capable of contributing to the country’s development. However, it insists on the necessity of complying with current legislation and pays particular attention to land security in the implementation of these projects.
