The U.S. diplomatic mission to Madagascar and the Comoros has welcomed a new diplomat. Career diplomat Tom Bevan assumed his duties as First Counselor at the U.S. Embassy this August. Until a new ambassador is confirmed, he will also serve as Chargé d’Affaires at the American Embassy in Antananarivo. He succeeds Melanie Higgins, who had been appointed acting Chargé d’Affaires on July 18.
Prior to his arrival in the Indian Ocean, Tom Bevan served as the Management Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Bangui, Central African Republic. His diplomatic career has also taken him to China, where he served as Management Officer in Chengdu, Investment Officer in Beijing, and Consular Officer in Guangzhou. Additionally, he held the position of Financial and Human Resources Management Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, Albania. In Washington, he worked as a Mission Management Officer within the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
Before joining the diplomatic service, Tom Bevan worked in the private sector in Salt Lake City, specifically in the fields of technology and operations management. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Brigham Young University and a Master of Business Administration from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He speaks French, Spanish, and Mandarin.
