It is now official. Jean-Marc Grosgurin is the new French Ambassador to Madagascar. His appointment was confirmed by a decree signed on August 7, 2026, by French President Emmanuel Macron and published in the Official Journal of the French Republic on August 8.
The new head of French diplomacy in Madagascar succeeds Arnaud Guillois, who left the country in mid-July after serving four years on the Great Island.
Jean-Marc Grosgurin is a career diplomat, specializing in issues related to the Near and Middle East. He began his career in that region, with postings in Beirut and Doha. He later served as Consul General of France in Dakar, Senegal, from 2008 to 2011, before holding several ambassadorial positions in countries facing significant political and security tensions, such as Yemen from 2014 to 2016.
The diplomat subsequently represented France in Guinea from 2016 to 2020, and then in the Central African Republic from 2020 to 2023. Just prior to his appointment in Antananarivo, Jean-Marc Grosgurin served as an Inspector of Foreign Affairs and head of mission.
