The Madagascar women’s 3×3 basketball team, the Ankoay, were unable to participate in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series in Singapore, scheduled for August 13-14. The team failed to arrive in Singapore on time due to flight connection issues, leading to a forfeit and significant financial loss for the Malagasy Basketball Federation (FMBB).
The team was scheduled to play qualifying matches against Indonesia and Singapore’s Lion City on Thursday, August 13. However, due to the travel delays, they were declared ineligible for the qualifying phase.
FMBB President Jean Michel Ramaroson explained that the team faced unexpected flight disruptions and administrative hurdles regarding ticket requirements, despite having already secured return tickets. This situation has caused deep frustration for the federation, which had made all necessary arrangements for the trip.
Beyond the sporting disappointment, the forfeit represents a heavy financial blow to the federation, as the team misses a crucial opportunity to gain international experience.
