Solar Energy: Jirama partners with a pan-African company to assemble batteries and train technicians

Jirama and the pan-African company Granville signed two cooperation agreements on Wednesday in Ambohijatovo, focusing on the development of solar energy in Madagascar. The partnership includes the creation of a solar battery assembly unit and the implementation of a training program for agents of the national electricity company. The partnership aims to support the development of solar solutions while strengthening the technical skills of the public company.

The first agreement concerns the installation of a solar battery assembly unit for an initial period of 12 months. Granville will cover the investments and resources necessary to start operations, while Jirama will provide its existing infrastructure. The second agreement, concluded for a five-year term, provides for the training of 40 Jirama agents each year in the installation, operation, and maintenance techniques for solar electricity production and distribution equipment. In total, 200 agents are expected to benefit from the program over the period.

The signing ceremony brought together the Director General of Jirama, General Hajatiana Rasolomanana, and the Director General of Granville, Tabi-Tabi. For Jirama, the installation of solar equipment must be accompanied by the training of technicians capable of ensuring its operation and maintenance over the long term. “It is not enough to install equipment. We must also have technicians capable of mastering it, maintaining it, and ensuring its operation over time,” emphasized General Hajatiana Rasolomanana.

The training system will rely on the infrastructure already available in Ambohimanambola, particularly that of the Jirama Vocational Training Center. The training currently provided there will be maintained and supplemented by a component dedicated to solar technologies.

The future training system will not be exclusively for Jirama agents. The center will also be able to welcome young people wishing to train in professions related to solar energy and, more broadly, in the technical fields of electricity. Training fees may be applied to external beneficiaries to contribute to the operation and sustainability of the center.

Through this partnership with Granville, a pan-African company, Jirama intends to act simultaneously on infrastructure and skills, as the development of renewable energies is expected to increase the need for specialized technicians in Madagascar.
